"Athlete — Defender of the Motherland": Month of Student Sports Kicks Off
A nationwide month-long celebration of student sports has officially begun in Uzbekistan under the slogan “Athlete — Defender of the Motherland.” The opening ceremony took place today at the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry, marking the launch of a series of major sporting events across the country’s higher education institutions.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials from the Ministries of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and Sports, as well as representatives of the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees. In their speeches, the speakers emphasized that, on the initiative of the President, large-scale efforts are underway to promote healthy lifestyles and develop mass sports throughout the nation. They also highlighted that this movement is gaining particular momentum among university students.
Throughout the month, students will compete in a wide range of sports, including badminton, basketball, judo, handball, weightlifting, table tennis, streetball, swimming, taekwondo, volleyball, and track and field.
