The Uzbekistan Cup in wrestling among adults is officially underway in Tashkent, bringing together the nation's top grapplers for a highly anticipated competition. Today, the “Universal” Sports Complex hosted the tournament’s opening ceremony, marking the start of several days of intense action on the mats.
The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Sports, the National Olympic Committee, and the Uzbekistan Wrestling Association. In their remarks, the speakers emphasized that high expectations are placed on the national team in the new Olympic cycle, and assured that all necessary support will be provided by the state to ensure optimal preparation for the athletes.
More than 500 wrestlers from various regions of Uzbekistan are competing in the tournament, which will run through May 7. The winners and medalists will have a chance to earn a place on the national team and begin preparations for the World Wrestling Championships, set to take place later this year in Croatia.
