NAGANO 1998
From 7 to 22 February, 1998 – the XVIII winter Olympic games in Nagano (Japan). The Sports programme included 14 disciplines and 68 events. 72 participating countries (2338 athletes: 1528 male and 810 female).

Long time before the XVIII winter Olympic games specialists forecasted that for total victory of the state is required 11-12 gold medals. And this forecast was полностью оправдался. After the all competitions were completed, Germany had 12 gold medals, Norway – 10, Russia - 9. The delegation of Uzbekistan included 13 athletes. They competed in 3 sports from 14, included in the Games’ programme. All Uzbekistan athletes showed their best results. Tatyana Malinina in figure skating, among 30 athletes from 22 countries, won 8th place. Lina Cheryazova in freestyle was 13th among 24 participants. Komil Urunbaev had among 50 countries. 29 athletes from 24 countries competed in figure skating among male athletes. Roman Skornyakov was 19th among them. Successful performance of our athletes allowed укрепить Uzbekistan’s authority in winter sports.
