These Games attended 9368 athletes from 173 countries. After the USSR’s collapse in 1991 the first and last time the United Team of Independent States participated on the Olympiad. The Republic of Uzbekistan by that time had state sovereignty. But could not represent its team under own flag. International Olympic committee required from National Olympic committees of CIS to represent one united team , argues this as difficulties of organizational character. That is why Uzbekistan athletes objectively could not participate separately, but were included in the staff of CIS team.

The Barcelona 1992 was attended by a record, comparing to the past years, number of athletes - 17. their performance was successful, our athletes brought to Uzbekistan 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals. The golden tradition of Galina Shamray and Elvira Saadi continued two splendid athletes, Oksana Chusovitina and Rosalia Galieva, won in the staff of CIS artistic gymnastics team gold medals.

The gold medal was also awarded Marina Shmonina. She successfully competed in the staff of track and field team in 4x100m relay. That was the first gold medal of Uzbekistan track and field athletes for the whole history of their participation at the Olympic games.

Sergey Syrtsov, weightlifting became the second. Anatoliy Asrabaev, competing in shooting came back home with silver Olympic medal. Valeriy Zacharevich, fencing, became bronze prizewinner.

Other athletes came back with no any Olympic medals, but they worthy represented our Republic. Their names are: Dmitriy Polyunin, Viktor Zaytsev, Ramil Ganiev, Sergey Usov, Svetlana Svezhentseva – track and field athletes, Anatoliy Tyurin and Ivan Kireev – rowing athletes; Alexander Krasnoyartsev, Igor Mulajjanov and Alexander Domashev – hockey.
