These Games were as never before representative – in total 9141 athletes from 160 states. The games again were boycotted, this time by NOCs of Cuba, PDR of Korea, Nicaragua and some other countries. The Programme of Olympiad was extended by tennis, table tennis, 10000m, women’s cycling sprint and 11 new disciplines. Undoubtedly victory gained USSR’s team (55 gold, 31 silver and 46 bronze medals), left behind teams of GDR and USA. In Seoul Olympiad a number of Uzbeks decreased to seven. However, they could win two gold, two silver and one bronze medals. The heroes of Olympiad became our wrestlers Muharbek Khadartsev and Arsen Fadzaev. They both are multi World’s, Europe and numerous international sport competitions champions. They both made a lot for the fame of uzbek sport. And both successfully graduated from the Uzbekistan State Institute for Physical Culture. In Seoul successfully competed World’s pole vault champion, Rodion Gataulin, World’s recordsman and Nail Muhamadiarov, Juniors Weightlifting Champion of Europe (1982). They both became silver prizewinners. Sergey Zabolotnov, World’s recordsman in swimming backstroke 200m competed in medley relay 4х 100m. He along with the team became a bronze prizewinner of the Games.
