MELBOURNE 1956

These were the first Games hosted on the Green Continent, in Australia at the beginning of south summer – from 22nd November to 8th December. At the Games participated 3178 athletes from 67 countries. The most successful was team of Soviet Union – 37 gold, 29 silver and 32 bronze medals. This time the uzbek team was represented by one, but splendid athlete – Valentina Ballod. Over ten years she was a leader of the Republic and USSR in high jump, achieved outstanding victories on the world sport arena, became a champion of Romania, winner of match competitions vs athletes from Great Britain and Indonesia, world Universiads’ prizewinner in France and Italy. Over thirty years Valentina Ballod, an honor sport master is working as athletics coach, prepared a number of champions and prizewinners.
