
Around 10 000 residents and guests of Uzbekistan celebrated Olympic Day 2010. More than 1500 of them participated in the final run competition dedicated to Olympism, fair play and healthy lifestyle.
The first ever Olympic Day was staged by the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan in 1992. Since then the celebration of it with the competitions in running became a grand sports gala, being awaited by thousands of sport admirers in Uzbekistan. This year the event became the 18th in succession.

The competitions organized in all regions of Uzbekistan concluded with the grand finals in the capital of the country - Tashkent city. The final runs have been preceded by the opening ceremony with opening speech of the President of NOC Uzbekistan Mr Malik Babaev. “Sport is a unique movement, which is enabling to give physical and mental health, strength and inspiration, to cultivate the best in the human. Olympic Day is an excellent steeping-stone to start a better life.
“Dear participants, dear friends! Thank you for the commitment to sport! Happy Olympic Day 2010!” concluded Mr Malik Babaev. Then, according to the good tradition, he read the message by IOC President Mr Jacque Rogge addressed to the participants of the celebration and declared start of the competitions.

The runs took place in three distances – 0,3 mile, o,5 mile and 1 mile, total quantity of runs amounted to 21. The runners aged from 6 to over 80. Over 1500 sport fans and athletes took part in the final stage of the competitions, about 10 000 participated in the preliminaries.

Ladies, age 46-54: Kadriniso Kholbazarova (Karshi city)
Men, age 46-54: Abduvahob Nizamov (Andijon city)
Ladies, age 55-64: Damira Bigeeva (Tashkent city)
Men, age 55-59: Evgeniy Kirshin (Tashkent city)
Ladies, age 65-69: Tamara Kataeva (Tashkent city)
Men, age 60-70: Khikmat Ikramov (Tashkent city)

As usual, local media expressed great interest to this event and the competitions of Olympic Day 2010 was widely covered at TV, printing newspapers and internet media.

All runners of the finals were equipped with the competition form, and on finishing of their distances presented with the Olympic Day 2010 certificate, signed by IOC President Mr Jacques Rogge and NOC Uzbekistan President Mr Malik Babaev. Winners and runners-up received prizes and commemorative gifts, awarded by the sport officials and famous athletes of Uzbekistan.
