AIBA President's Cup 2009 starts in Baku


Annual AIBA (International Boxing Federation) President’s Cup Baku 2009 stated at Azerbaijan’s capital city.  Leading boxers between the ages of 17 and 34 from around the world participate in the prestigious tournament. The competitions conducted in eleven Elite Men Weight Categories. Boxers of Uzbekistan participate in five weight categories, the athletes are: Orzubek Shaimov (54 kg), Hurshid Todjiboev (57 kg), Botirjon Makhmudov (69 kg), Ramzidjon Akhmedov (91 kg) and Sardor Adbullaev (+91 kg).

The preliminaries of the tournament will be held on 8 and 9 December, the semifinals on 10 December and 11 December will be the finals day.

On first day of preliminaries, 8 December, Uzbekistan boxer  Ramzidjon Akhmedov won his first boot of the tournament. He defeated his opponent from Ghana Yekeni Awusone by score 7:0.

On second day, 9 December, four Uzbekistan boxers will compete in preliminary boots:

54 kg, Orzubek Shaimov  – Samir Mammadov (Azerbaijan)
57 kg, Hurshid Todjiboev  – Elshan Ismailov (Azerbaijan)
69 kg, Botirjon Makhmudov  – Chiger Jaoid (France)
+91 kg, Sardor Abdullaev – Roman Kapitonenko (Ukraine)
